For the past eighteen months, Todd Cantwell has been living in Glasgow’s goldfish bowl. However, as far as the Rangers star’s social media posts prior of an Old Firm encounter are concerned, the light hasn’t yet come on. particularly one with the scope of the Scottish Cup Final.

The midfielder was not used as a substitute when the Gers’ dreams of winning the title were crushed at Parkhead earlier this month, and he hasn’t started the team’s last two games with Celtic. However, the former playmaker for Norwich City stormed back into the Light Blues lineup by scoring twice in as many games against Hearts and Dundee.

Having already won the League Cup in December, this puts the 26-year-old squarely in line for a rare start this Saturday against the Hoops at Hampden as Philippe Clement’s team looks to at least cap off the season with a domestic double. The goal is to ease the pain of watching their rivals celebrate yet another championship.

Cantwell, who is accustomed to posting cryptic messages on social media, shared a photo of himself celebrating a goal during Saturday’s 3-3 draw at Tynecastle. The caption read “Shushburger please,” and it included an emoji for laughter. Given that he subtly tagged two other accounts on his Instagram stories, it might very well be an inside joke with his friends.

However, the remark swiftly incited the fury of online Rangers supporters, many of whom advised the player to put his head down and do his talking on the field in front of a crucial game this coming weekend. Some questioned why, on the day Celtic lifted the Premiership trophy, he shared a photo from a meaningless match that they lost.

Todd Cantwell posted this tonight and then swiftly removed it in response to criticism.

A supporter was furious: “Some players just don’t get it, Todd Cantwell is one of them.”

Another wrote: “When a saw Todd Cantwell celebration on Saturday a thought myself wis tad embarrassing.”

A third person wrote:

“I wish Todd Cantwell would just ssshhhhhhhut up on social media, the boy really canny help himself.”This punter pleaded: “Someone take Todd Cantwell’s phone off him please.”
