Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Wednesday, May 8.

Bulut contract latest

Cardiff City want to have Erol Bulut’s contract situation resolved by the end of the week, as the Bluebirds manager flew home to Turkey to be with his family.

Bulut’s coaching staff have all left the Welsh capital and travelled to their individual homes and families in Germany, Turkey, and Greece, their futures uncertain.Subscribe to our Cardiff City newsletter here.

The most recent information we have is that Bulut, who has flown into Istanbul, is currently reviewing an offer with his family and will return in the following hours and days. As previously reported, the length of the agreement is the sticking point.

Bulut argues that there is a project to be completed in Cardiff and that he will require employment security while carrying it out. He hopes to improve on his 12th-place performance this season and has stated that if given the opportunity, he hopes to achieve even greater success the next season.

He has also spoken about missing his family in recent weeks. They will seek a commitment from the club in order to develop a long-term plan for their own family situation. Whether any appropriate contract terms or extension triggers have been included in the contract currently on the table may play a role.

Vincent Tan, on the other hand, was severely burned by the two-year contract he extended to Mick McCarthy following the former Republic of Ireland manager’s promising start in Cardiff. Following his resignation, a succession of managers have been placed on short-term deals.

The club will, however, contact Bulut within the next 48 hours to determine his decision, as next season’s plans must begin in earnest, one way or another.

Erol on Hull odds list

Bulut, meanwhile, is one of the early favourites to take over at Hull City, according to the bookmakers.

Greek giants Panathinaikos and Turkish side Besiktas have both been mentioned as possible replacements, and bookmakers now reckon Hull might be another option.

The Tigers are looking for a new manager after parting ways with Liam Rosenior, and Bulut is listed at 5/1 to make the switch to Humberside.

Bulut has previously discussed his friendship with Tigers owner Acun Ilicali, saying in December, “I know Acun very well, since 1995.” When I was a player, he worked for the Fenerbahce press. I’ve known him since then, but he’s made some great moves with his TV channels and shows, and he’s always been passionate about football.

“He has made his dream come true, having a team and being the owner.”

Former Swansea City manager Steve Cooper is a 5/2 favourite, while Danny Rohl and Will Still are marginally ahead of Bulut at 4/1. Tim Walter, the former Hamburger SV coach, tops the list at 1/2.

Odds in full:

Tim Walter 1/2

Steve Cooper 5/2

Danny Röhl 4/1

Will Still 4/1

Erol Bulut 5/1

Emre Belozoglu 9/1

Graham Potter 10/1

Paul Heckingbottom 10/1

Fatih Terim 12/1

Shaun Maloney 14/1

Olympic gold winner Campbell on working with Bluebirds

Olympic gold medalist sprinter Darren Campbell has stated that working with people “who don’t necessarily like each other” was the most valuable experience he gained while with Cardiff.

Campbell became the club’s speed coach after winning promotion to the Premier League in 2013. The 50-year-old, who won gold in the 4x100m in Athens in 2004 and silver in the 200m in Sydney four years ago, is now Team GB’s head of sprints and relays.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, he discussed his life both on and off the track as he prepares for the Olympics in Paris this summer.

Speaking about Cardiff, he said: “Working in football taught me how to cope with many different characters who don’t always like each other but have to go out on the pitch as an 11 and work.

“I learned a lot. It is about getting everyone to buy into the same vision – and man-management.”
