TRADE NEWS: Richmond Tigers on another super trade…

After acquiring the dual premiership Richmond forward in a sensational trade to start deadline day, Fremantle is thrilled to add Shai Bolton’s “flair and X-factor.”

In a transaction that will be finalised when the last day opens at 11am, the Dockers gave up choices 10, 11, and 18 in return for Bolton, pick 14, and a future third-round selection.

The Dockers had only wanted to give up selections 10 and 18 for the forward, who had four years left on his contract, while Richmond had sought picks 10 and 11 in exchange for Bolton.

However, Fremantle will receive the pick 14, which the Tigers received from Carlton as part of a three-club deal with West Coast yesterday in exchange for Liam Baker’s departure.
In order to load up for a chance at Sydney star Chad Warner when his contract expires next year, the Dockers may either maintain their pick in the first round of this year’s strong draft or swap it for future picks.

After being selected with pick 29 in the 2016 draft, Bolton, 25, plays 135 games and kicks 165 goals for the Tigers before joining the Dockers on a five-year contract.

Bolton said that he was excited to be moving west in a greeting to Freo fans.

He said, “I can’t wait to join you and train with the boys.”
“I can’t wait to get down to business and prepare for next year.” Go Freo.
David Walls, the manager of Fremantle football, stated that Bolton’s inclusion in the team would enhance the team’s expanding roster.
“We are thrilled to have a player with Shai Bolton’s skill level, as that is exactly what we need,” Walls stated.

He is a very dangerous player because of his inventiveness, speed, ability to break lines, and ball use.
His flair and X-factor will instantly boost teammates’ morale.
For the past five years, he has consistently finished in the top five in Richmond’s B&F and is incredibly resilient.
He has a four-year contract as a gun player, so Richmond won’t just throw him away.
“Having a guy like Shai on our list makes us very happy.
We are well-positioned for next year’s draft and still have picks in this year’s extremely deep round.
“We determined that Shai is a football player who can definitely fit the strategy we have been pursuing for the past five years and complement the list we are building.”
Shai becomes the first Fremantle player to line up in an AFL game with a parent who also played for the team, as Bolton’s father, Darren, played two games for the Dockers in 1999.

Along with ruck-forward Luke Jackson and spearheads Josh Treacy and Jye Amiss, the 2022 All-Australian will surely strengthen their already potent front line.

In this year’s draft, Fremantle will now possess choices 14, 30, and 67.
