TRANSFER NEWS: Bristol City and Swansea set for Arsenal transfer battle

The young striker is attracting plenty of interest

Nathan Butler-Oyedeji, a striker for Arsenal, is a target for Swansea City and Bristol City during the summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old is reportedly attracting interest from clubs abroad, according to a report published by Football Insider.

Despite having progressed through the Gunners’ development system, Oyedeji has not yet made his Premier League debut as a professional player.

But he has already played a little football with the first squad. After being demoted from League One, the striker went on loan to Accrington Stanley for the second half of the 2022–2023 season.

After signing a loan deal with Cheltenham Town in the summer of last year, the Arsenal academy alumnus returned to the third division of English football before being called up again in January.

Oyedeji has scored goals for the Gunners often while still in his youth, but he has yet to score his first goal as an adult.

In spite of this, he seems to be drawing considerable attention from other parties in advance of the summer transfer season.

Championship couple interested in Arsenal forward

Swansea and Bristol City are both eager to sign the striker in the summer, according to the most recent report.

Oyedeji is believed to have drawn attention with his strong young performances for Arsenal during the second part of the current campaign.

However, he is anticipated to move on when the transfer market reopens after missing out on his opportunity to play at the senior level with Mikel Arteta’s team.

To sign the 21-year-old, though, those two Championship teams might have competition. Schalke and Nurnberg, two German second-tier teams, are reportedly interested in the striker as well.

Swansea and Bristol City both finished comfortably in the middle of the standings in the Championship this year.

At the end of the season, Bristol City was 11 points outside of the play-offs in the rankings, while the Swans were five points behind in 14th place.

The Nathan Butler-Oyedeji trade can be risky.

If teams like Swansea and Bristol City decided to try to recruit Oyedeji this summer, it does seem like they would be taking a bit of a chance.

Any club that has a transfer window open will undoubtedly want to bolster their roster, especially if it means adding some more offensive firepower—a goal-scoring threat is crucial.

Therefore, it might make sense to look for a new striker. However, even if Oyedeji rose through the ranks at a team like Arsenal, you have to question if he is the best player to take on that job for one of these teams.

The Swedish striker has impressed the Canaries and found true form with his new team.

The 21-year-old is still developing as a goal scorer in League One, and he has very little first-team experience—none of it at Championship level.

That, in turn, would prompt serious concerns about his ability to have the necessary effect in front of goal for Swansea or Bristol City in the Championship.

In light of that, you do question if these two Championship clubs would be better served by focusing on any other choices over Oyedeji during the course of the upcoming few months.
