Newcastle United were interested in signing Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin during the summer transfer window but decided against pursuing the move due to Everton’s £37 million asking price. However, reports now suggest that contract negotiations between Calvert-Lewin and Everton have stalled, raising the possibility of a cut-price transfer in January. The 27-year-old could also be available on a free transfer next summer, as his contract is set to expire.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently noted that while discussions are planned for later this year, there has been no progress on a new deal for Calvert-Lewin. Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is reportedly an admirer of the striker and could monitor the situation closely.
Currently, Newcastle have limited options up front, with Alexander Isak, Callum Wilson, and William Osula available. Wilson, dealing with a back injury, has not yet played this season and is expected to return after the October international break, while Osula only made his debut in a recent defeat to Fulham.
Newcastle’s January transfer plans remain uncertain, with much of the summer focused on signing defender Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. Strengthening other areas, such as the right side of the forward line and defensive midfield, has also been suggested as priorities.
