TRENDING:In answer to a fan, Ed Sheeran makes a claim for Ipswich Town and the Premier League

Sheeran could once again provide the Tractor Boys’ shirt sponsor

Ipswich Town are on the verge of becoming the first club to secure back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League since Southampton in 2012.

The 2023/24 Championship campaign has exceeded expectations for the Tractor Boys, who were promoted from League One in the previous season.

Kieran McKenna’s team faces only Huddersfield Town, who are almost relegated. With a point on the final day, the Tractor Boys can earn automatic promotion alongside Leicester City, who were crowned champions on Monday night with a 3-0 victory over Preston North End.

The Portman Road faithful will be enjoying some of the greatest moments in the club’s modern history, including music sensation Ed Sheeran, who is a keen supporter of the Tractor Boys, and has sponsored the team’s shirts since 2021.

A Suffolk Outfit fan wrote on Ed Sheeran’s Instagram image, “Ed stop f***ing around, and get yourself to Portman”, to which Sheeran responded, “Premium sponsorship won’t pay for itself.”

The Tractor Boys fan later said, “Sorry, Ed, you’re right.”

In a conversation with another Ipswich Town supporter, Sheeran hinted that he would once again sponsor the team’s shirt.

For Sheeran, who has achieved significant success in the music industry, sponsoring his beloved team in the Premier League would be a dream come true—an outcome he likely didn’t anticipate when he first agreed to sponsor them for the 2021/22 season, when they were preparing for a third consecutive season in League One.

However, the arrival of McKenna as manager in December 2021 marked a turning point for Ipswich Town, who finished 11th at the end of the 2021/22 season.

The Tractor Boys’ remarkable ascent under McKenna has been truly impressive.

Kieran McKenna for Ipswich Town-4

In his inaugural complete season overseeing the Suffolk team, McKenna led his side to automatic promotion from League One to the Championship, setting the stage for the subsequent impressive achievements.

The confidence instilled by the Northern Irishman in his squad is commendable, evident in how he has elevated players to new performance levels.

Despite the majority of the Tractor Boys’ squad remaining from their League One campaign, they now find themselves on the brink of top-tier football, potentially heading to iconic stadiums like Old Trafford and Anfield.

In just a little over two years, McKenna seems poised to transition from mid-table battles in the third tier against teams like Accrington Stanley to clashes with Premier League giants such as Manchester City.

For Ipswich Town, the taste of potential promotion could be even sweeter if arch-rivals Norwich City fail to secure promotion. Some supporters are eagerly anticipating the prospect of a Premier League East Anglian derby, a possibility if Norwich can maintain their top-six standing and succeed in the play-offs.
