It appears that Luton Town may have a busy summer in the transfer market.
There will probably be a change in the team in the upcoming months as a result of their relegation from the Premier League to the Championship after just one season in the top division. Some players have already been connected to moves other than Kenilworth Road. Ross Barkley from the Hatters has reportedly agreed to a contract with Aston Villa. Elijah Adebayo, meanwhile, is drawing interest from other places after scoring ten goals in 27 league games in a season marred by injuries.
The 26-year-old is rumored to be interested in teams like Everton and Fenerbahce, and he may be lured by the chance to play football in the top division with one of those groups. In fact, joining the aforementioned Turkish team would allow him to play for titles under Jose Mourinho in the Champions League. Because of all of that, Luton might find it difficult to hold onto the striker this summer, and they might also struggle to hold onto other players.
In light of this, we’ve looked at two additional players who may be planning to leave Kenilworth Road during the transfer window, which you can find here.
Teden Mengi
Teden Mengi, who only joined the team from Manchester United last summer, had a fantastic first season with Luton Town. Despite the Hatters’ relegation, the center-back was a reliable member of the defense and did well enough to draw interest from other Premier League teams before the summer transfer window opened. The 22-year-old is reportedly interested in joining with Fulham and Crystal Palace, who are looking to bolster their own defensive options this summer.
The arrival of some additional depth at center back should be advantageous for both Nathan Ferguson and James Tomkins, who were both released by Palace and Tosin Adarabioyo leaving Fulham. They may believe they can afford this contract given the financial windfall they still enjoy as Premier League clubs. Mengi, on the other hand, might be persuaded to make a quick return to the Premier League now that he is certain he can perform there. Because of all of that, it might be difficult for Luton to keep the center for the upcoming season.
Alfie Doughty
Alfie Doughty Another Luton player who had a successful first season in the Premier League in 2023–2024 was Luton Town’s Doughty. In a left wing-back position, the 24-year-old was a very reliable offensive threat for the Hatters. He finished with two goals and eight assists for Rob Edwards’ team in 37 Premier League games. Because of this, teams that are still competing in the English football premier league are showing interest in him as well. Doughty is reportedly being watched by Palace in addition to Brentford, who are rumored to be interested in the former Charlton and Stoke player.
Because of this, Luton may find it difficult to hold onto him, as Doughty is likely to be interested in playing in the Premier League as well. Amari’i Bell is expected to return from injury in this instance, so the Hatters do have solid cover in that position as well, which might lessen the pressure on Doughty’s trade interest.
