Tyrick Mitchell and Crystal Palace will be excited with what transpired on Wednesday following what will have been a dismal week for him.
Four Crystal Palace players were called up to the England squad, capping an incredible first week for the team after the Premier League season finale.
In addition to the international call-ups, two intriguing transfer targets have moved one step closer to joining Selhurst Park this week.
Eventually, there’s been a positive development with Dougie Freedman staying with the team after Newcastle rejected his offer.
Tyrick Mitchell could be handed a golden opportunity after what happened on Wednesday
The absence of Mitchell from the England squad shocked Crystal Palace supporters when it was revealed.
Although there was a worrying shortage of choices at left-back—a problem Mitchell could have resolved had England been involved—Gareth Southgate chose not to put Mitchell in the squad.
The news is good for Mitchell since Kieran Trippier, a left-back possibility for Palace, may have injured himself playing in an inappropriate friendly versus Spurs, according to The Telegraph.
If Trippier’s injury is as bad as the ice pack on his ankle suggested—that is, at least a scare—Southgate might have to insert a new player into the starting lineup.
Mitchell is the best choice to take his place if this were to happen for England. If Mitchell were to receive a call-up, it would also be advantageous for Palace.
Why Crystal Palace would benefit from another call-up
It might end up being quite profitable for the Eagles because Palace might have a significant number of players competing in the competition this summer.
Depending on how many players and how long they compete, teams with participating players share a pot of money set aside by UEFA.
The daily amount is £7,424, which may not seem like much, but when added together over the course of the month—especially since England is expected to do well—it could come to almost a million pounds, or £900,000.
The amount, though, might really be larger because UEFA is now giving clubs an eight percent cut of all broadcast, sponsorship, and ticket sales from the Euros.
With Mitchell included, the total pot value of £170 million could bring Palace’s take-home pay to approximately £1.5 million.
