Reading FC is facing a fine for failing to submit their financial figures to Companies House. They are the only club in the entire Football League that has not yet posted their accounts.
Football finance expert Kieran Maguire informed fans that Dai Yongge used a loophole to delay the publication of Reading FC’s 2022/23 accounts. Maguire posted on X, formerly known as Twitter: “As well as ceasing to support Reading Women, Dai Yongge & cronies used a loophole to delay publication of Reading’s 22/23 accounts for 3 months so they are the only club in 92 not to publish. Loophole has expired but still no accounts. Shows the contempt owner has for fans Royals.”
This update comes shortly after the club announced that the Women’s first team will drop out of the Women’s Championship due to a lack of funding from the owner and will instead play in Tier 5 of the football pyramid, in the Southern Region Women’s Premier League.
Maguire also noted that the club will likely be fined around £150 for this breach, although other clubs have faced transfer embargoes from the EFL for similar violations in the past.
