The official WANDERERS intention to implement safe standing at the Toughsheet Stadium for the upcoming season has been abandoned.
The Bolton News has been informed by Chairman Sharon Brittan that the project has been placed on hold until the Whites can ensure Championship football.
As we previously reported in March, the club met with the Supporters’ Trust to determine whether or not rail seats would be welcomed. The results of an official survey that was distributed the following month were a resounding yes.
Despite the fact that about 15,000 season tickets for 2024–2025 have already been sold, Wanderers were certain they could easily relocate the necessary fans to their chosen section of the stadium.
Nonetheless, it was decided to postpone the implementation of safe standing until 2025–2026 at the latest after the team was eliminated from consideration for promotion in the play-off final last month.
Championship football would have been worth an additional £8–10 million in EFL central payments and TV advertising.
In order to provide Ian Evatt’s team the best opportunity to advance in a division that is anticipated to have higher spending teams than it did in 2023–2024, the Bolton board is eager to increase the playing budget this season.
An expanded gym that will allow more players to utilise the facilities at once and a new first team training pitch have been approved for the training site makeover.
Ms. Brittan insisted, however, that it made sense to put the team first, especially because sports director Chris Markham and manager Ian Evatt are already aggressively looking to bolster the roster.
The chairman of the Wanderers declared, “Safe standing will go on hold until we are in the Championship.” “We want to accomplish it and the supporters want it, but we have to spend a lot of money on capital expenditures, so this season I have to concentrate on getting the team healthy and prepared for promotion.
That ought to be our current goal.
We are working on a few things, including the gym and another pitch at Lostock, among other places. However, our primary focus at the moment is on first team football and promotion, providing Ian and Chris with all the tools they need to accomplish their jobs well.
“In League One, we plan to be competitive.” If not, I wouldn’t do it.
The Toughsheet Stadium’s playing field is presently being reseeded, but the massive plan to replace the pitch system—which was put on hold last summer because other capital projects took precedence—appears to have been put on wait once more.
Wanderers has announced that three Macron-made uniforms will be available later this month. The kits’ design was chosen by an online poll taken by fans.
