Southampton manager Russell Martin anticipates that Ross Stewart and Adam Lallana will be returning from injury later this month. They are expected to rejoin Kamaldeen Sulemana, who participated in pre-season and is also aiming to be fit for the Carabao Cup second round.
The Saints will face Championship side Cardiff City during the week starting August 26, following their first home game of the Premier League season. Although Stewart, Lallana, and Sulemana are not yet in full team training, Martin mentioned to the Daily Echo that he expects them to be back on the pitch next week.
“You’ll see them smiling and running around with the lads,” Martin said. “They are all progressing well in their rehab and should be back soon. We’re hopeful they’ll be available for the Carabao Cup game, though the Forest match may come too soon after just a few days of training. But the week after, they should all be fully back in contention.”
Southampton will host Nottingham Forest on Saturday at 3pm, following a 1-0 defeat at Newcastle United in their Premier League opener last weekend.
