We have to step up: Byrne

Another significant obstacle for the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua is making it to the quarterfinals of the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific.

After losing to the Crusaders a year ago, the Drua has made the top eight for the second year in a row. Meli Derenalagi, the captain, and head coach Mick Byrne both mentioned that the team had experience competing in Super Rugby playoffs. When they play the Blues this weekend, according to Byrne, they know it will be quarterfinal intensity.

We’re prepared for that, but as we saw from last year, the teams will rise to the occasion, and we must be prepared to rise to the occasion as well. That’s why finishing seventh or eighth in a competition means you’re up against one or both of the top two teams; that’s the difficulty; you have to defeat the tournament favorite in the quarterfinals.

On Saturday, the Drua takes on the Blues at 7:05 p.m. The Chiefs take on the Reds at 7 p.m. on Friday, the Hurricanes play the Rebels at 4 p.m. on Saturday, and the Brumbies play the Highlanders at 9 p.m. on the same Saturday.
