West Brom have confirmed an agreement with an experienced defender following the weekend’s contractual deadline.
Kyle Bartley, a center back for West Bromwich Albion, has signed a one-year deal that will keep him at The Hawthorns until at least June 2025, pledging his immediate future to the Baggies. The former player for Sheffield United, Leeds United, and Swansea City has agreed to include a condition in his new contract that will allow him to stay for an additional year provided he makes a specific number of games. Bartley was scheduled to depart West Brom on Sunday, but negotiations to extend his stay went very smoothly.
Bartley said on the West Brom website in response to writing anything down: “I’ve been at the Albion for six years and I really enjoy being here.” We had a great season the previous year, and I think we can improve under the new boss.
Since he joined the team, the manager has trusted me to start most of the games, and for that, I am quite thankful. I’m committed to continue giving my all, and I have no doubt that I can accomplish that in the upcoming campaign. “During my time at the club, I’ve really enjoyed playing with some of the other defenders we’ve had here.” With some of the younger guys we currently have in the squad, I’d like to help make it happen again because I’ve watched so many of them succeed.
Bartley joined The Hawthorns in the summer of 2018 and immediately contributed to Albion’s push for automatic promotion in 2019–20. Under Carlos Corberán’s direction, Bartley has been a standout player for the Baggies. The 33-year-old is expected to continue his excellent play at the center of defense as West Brom looks to place in the Championship play-off spots for the first time.
