West Brom boss makes admission that will give Sheffield Wednesday fans confidence

Carlos Corberan, West Bromwich Albion’s manager, has highlighted a reality that demonstrates Sheffield Wednesday are not far behind them despite their massive Championship table differential.

The promotion-chasing Baggies travel to Hillsborough on Saturday knowing that a win will almost guarantee a spot in the top six, barring an unimaginable goal differential swing in favour of Hull City. Their hosts, who rose out of the bottom three last weekend and are now one point clear of the drop zone, will be looking to pick up three points themselves.

A massive 25 points and 16 league positions separate the two teams, who are competing for quite different goals as the league enters its penultimate round of fixtures. However, the league table conceals Wednesday’s significant revival since Danny Röhl joined the club.

“When you look at the table, you’ll see Sheffield Wednesday in 21st place and West Bromwich Albion in fifth,” former Leeds United coach Corberan stated. “However, if you look at the table based on the last 25 games, they have only three fewer points than us.

“That suggests they are one of the teams in strong form after a slow start to the season. They are in a really strong spot and are a highly competitive team.”

Corberan spoke to West Brom’s official website on the importance of his players embracing what he described as a ‘play-off’ atmosphere at a packed Hillsborough stadium. The Baggies have gone winless in two games and will be eager to revive their form ahead of a potential post-season campaign.

He added, “We cannot underestimate Sheffield Wednesday, and they cannot underestimate us, for a variety of reasons. They cannot underestimate us because we are battling to get a result that will move us closer to our goal of clinching a place in the playoffs.

“They will fight to achieve a result that brings them closer to their goal of remaining in the championship.” Both sides have lofty goals to strive for, and both will give their all to attain them.”
