West Brom could sign a “fantastic” replacement for Alex Mowatt

West Bromwich Albion could sign this young star to replace Alex Mowatt.

West Bromwich Albion appears to be struggling to earn a playoff position, with only one win in their previous six league matches, including a 2-1 loss at Leicester City.

Carlos Corberan’s men, on the other hand, will not be frightened, believing they will have enough to cross the finish line and compete in the playoff lottery.

The Baggies will need to extend the contracts of many key players this summer, including Cedric Kipre and Alex Mowatt, who are reaching the end of their present terms.

West Brom may see this alleged transfer target as a long-term successor for Mowatt if the former Leeds United man departs this summer or later, with the 20-year-old in question expected to become an even bigger star as he matures.

West Brom transfer news

West Bromwich Albion are apparently interested in signing Huddersfield Town midfielder Brahima Diarra in the summer. However, they are not alone in their pursuit.

Leicester and Hull City in the Championship are reportedly interested in Diarra due to his contract expiring soon, while RB Salzburg in Austria is also intrigued.

It’s been a breakout season for the 20-year-old, as evidenced by this footage from earlier this season against the Foxes, in which Diarra starred, and he could be on his way to a bigger club.

Corberan will hope that his previous links to Diarra, having watched his development in West Yorkshire during his time as Terriers manager, may help close a deal in favour of West Brom, who will require more midfielders if Mowatt leaves the club shortly.

Brahima Diarra is Mowatt’s replacement.

Diarra hasn’t been a regular first-teamer at the John Smith’s Stadium this season, but he has demonstrated in flashes when he has started why clubs like West Brom are interested in signing him.

In 23 league games this season, the Mali U23 international has two assists, the most recent against Hull City in February.

He has a long way to go to match Mowatt’s influence for the Baggies this season. The 29-year-old has five assists and one goal in the Championship.

Mowatt, who has scored five goals in 80 games in the West Midlands, would be a significant loss for Corberan’s team if he were to leave in the summer.

The Diarra signing could be a long-term solution to the dilemma, but the 20-year-old will not be able to replace the void left by the seasoned midfielder right away.

Corberan hopes to sign Diarra, a “fantastic” talent highlighted by former Baggies star Carlton Palmer, to serve as Mowatt’s understudy and eventually promote him to the first squad.

If a trade is completed and Mowatt leaves the Hawthorns, West Brom may have to push Diarra into the senior squad sooner than expected, hoping the midfielder will go on to be another raw gem who shines in the first team with a hitherto untested Tom Fellows.
