West Ham United lurking to sign Everton ace Dominic Calvert-Lewin amid £40m update

West Ham are still “lurking” in the transfer hunt for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, according to Alex Crook.

The England striker is seen by the Hammers as the “ideal candidate” for incoming boss Julen Lopetegui, according to news outlet Football Transfers (22 June).

According to Alex Crook, chief football journalist for talkSPORT, Everton is seeking to pay around £40 million to get Calvert-Lewin, who has also been connected to Newcastle United. A few clubs are considering him, according to Crook. “Obviously, it appeared to be progressing with Newcastle earlier this week. “They have officially withdrew from the contest, but this might just be a ploy to lower the asking price.

West Ham are lurking for him and maybe a change of scenery could be a positive step for him.”

Why West Ham want to sign a striker this summer

West Ham have traditionally struggled with striker signings in the past and it appears clear that Lopetegui is keen to reinforce his forward line this summer.

Michail Antonio is reaching the twilight of his career and endured issues with form and fitness during the 2023/24 campaign, while Danny Ings appears surplus to requirements.

Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus – both of whom prefer playing a bit deeper – were relied upon to lead the line last season.

The addition of Calvert-Lewin, who is about to enter the last year of his Everton contract, would provide the Hammers with a better focal point up top.

It’s unclear if Tammy Abraham [Daily Mail, June 14] and Callum Wilson, among others, will follow their interest in Calvert-Lewin after hearing about a potential move to Goodison Park.

In any case, Hammers supporters should begin to get enthusiastic about the possibility of a new striker joining the team during the off-season at the London Stadium.
