What Ryan Lowe said on Preston North End’s future under him after West Brom defeat

Preston North End manager Ryan Lowe

Preston North End boss Ryan Lowe believes he can lead the Lilywhites ahead, despite a dismal season.

The defeat at West Brom on the final day of the season was PNE’s fifth in a row, with no goals scored in any of them. It’s the second time in North End history that they’ve lost their final five games of the season. Preston finished 10th in the 2023/24 standings with 63 points, and Lowe is confident he is the perfect man to take on North End in his third full season at Deepdale.

“I am sick of apologising, because I don’t want to too much for the performances, but I have to and I get the frustration,” Lowe told reporters after the game. “What I can tell them is to keep supporting us; it’s their football club, and we’re just trying to get them where they want to go.” I always applaud them (the supporters) for their efforts in remaining behind for the lads. I know there was one or two finger pointing, which is OK. But these are fantastic lads; we’ll be adding to it next season, and you’ve seen how close we are.

“Finishing 10th is a plus, but we should have more points, and if we’re going to finish anywhere, we should be just outside of the play-offs. Throughout the season, I believed we had a decent opportunity of reaching our goal. So, once again, I apologise to them; I believe they can go away and reflect, just as I will. I will work relentlessly throughout the summer to ensure that we get some players in and recruit successfully, like we have done in the past, so that we can move one step closer to next season. The day I can’t (take it forward) is the day I walk away, as I’ve told Craig and Peter.

“I believe the football, with what we strive to accomplish, is there. You’ve seen it; against excellent teams, we simply haven’t been clinical enough in both boxes over the last four games. I am completely certain that I can take it to the next level, and we will receive greater support next season. We will add more players, and the squad will become stronger and better. Then it’s up to us to deliver. You must get off to a good start (next season), or everyone will point fingers. I understand, but what I can’t deny is that the lads have had a good season. “We wanted to have a great season.”
