Birmingham City are going to get promoted this season – they remind me of Ipswich - Birmingham Live

Wycombe manager Matt Bloomfield is confident that Birmingham City will secure promotion this season, drawing comparisons to Ipswich Town. Birmingham secured a 3-2 victory over Wycombe at Adams Park on Saturday, with goals from Alfie May, Luke Harris, and Willum Willumsson. This marked Chris Davies’ first League One win as Birmingham’s manager, with the team widely tipped by bookmakers to claim the title.

Bloomfield was full of praise for Birmingham, stating, “Birmingham City are going to get promoted this season. Absolutely—they remind me of what Ipswich did a couple of years ago. They’ve recruited an incredible young coach, they’re spending millions on the backroom staff, the playing staff, on everything, and there’s no point spending all that money if you’re not going to do it right. They’re doing it right and properly.”

The comparisons to Ipswich are understandable, as both clubs are American-owned, and Birmingham’s appointment of Davies is reminiscent of Ipswich’s hiring of Kieran McKenna. McKenna has become one of the most sought-after managers after leading Ipswich to successive promotions from League One to the Premier League.

While Davies has acknowledged that Birmingham’s ultimate goal is to reach the Premier League, he recognizes that it won’t be easy to accomplish in just two seasons. For now, Birmingham is fully focused on getting out of League One first.
