Where are the Sunderland players from their play-off victory over Sheffield Wednesday now that they’ve relocated to Singapore?

Two years ago on this day, Sunderland defeated Sheffield Wednesday to advance to the League One play-off championship.

Prior to the match at Hillsborough, Sheffield Wednesday led 1-0 in the first leg, but a goal in the second leg gave Alex Neil’s team an equalizer, bringing the aggregate score to one.

But with time running out, Jack Clarke dribbled down the left side to put up Patrick Roberts, who scored the game-winning goal to send Sunderland to Wembley to face Wycombe Wanderers.

However, two years after that unforgettable incident, where is that Sunderland team now? Here, we examine:

Anthony Patterson

Homegrown goalkeeper Anthony Patterson remains at Sunderland and played in all but one of the Black Cats’ league games during the 2023-24 campaign.

Bailey Wright

Bailey Wright now plays for Singapore Premier League club Lion City Sailors.

Danny Batth

The central defender joined Norwich City last summer but only played 16 times in the Championship during the 2023-24 season.

Dennis Cirkin

The left-back remains at Sunderland but endured a disappointing 2023-24 due to several injuries.
