Nottingham Forest fought tooth and nail to try and sign a new striker during the summer transfer window.
The Reds ultimately ended up disappointed in their quest to sign some competition for Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi.
The number one objective was Santiago Gimenez, but he repeatedly turned down Forest’s attempts. Eddie Nketiah was then approached, but after speaking with Oliver Glasner, he decided to play for Crystal Palace rather than Forest. As the deadline approached, Forest tentatively contacted Omar Marmoush, and for a while, it appeared as though the Frankfurt striker would sign with the team.
But on deadline day, things didn’t work out, and Marmoush has been performing well for the Bundesliga team ever since the window closed.
Omar Marmoush shares why he didn’t sign for Nottingham Forest
The Egyptian striker has been questioned by Bild on his choice to stay away from Forest during the summer transfer window. The athlete was reportedly open to the move and that it was even near at one time, according to reports in the English media.
In England, Bild was valued at £28 million, but he called that a “joke,” as Frankfurt placed a far higher value on him. Marmoush has tallied four goals and claimed three assists in five games to kick off the 2024–24 season. He’s having fun playing football, and he never considered quitting the Bundesliga team. “The feeling I have here, especially with the coach, is indescribable,” he said to Bild. That has motivated me to remain here and focus on the task at hand.
Marmoush still has hopes of playing in the Premier League, according to the article, and he won’t turn down a trade if the opportunity ever arises.
Marmoush could still potentially end up at Forest
Marmoush seems to be interested in joining the Premier League, so it’s unlikely that Forest won’t keep an eye on him. But given the money involved, Forest might not be able to afford Frankfurt’s demands if they exceed £30 million. Even said, the Reds have already recorded five wins this season, and if they can maintain this level of play for a little while longer, Forest may attract interest from January transfer targets.
