Why John McAtee wanted to be part of Wanderers’ journey

John McAtee hopes to be a part of something spectacular at the Toughsheet Community Stadium after being impressed by the Wanderers’ vision. The forward, who joined the Whites for an unknown amount from Luton Town, has signed a three-year contract.

The Salford native McAtee faced Bolton during his loan at Barnsley, where he scored 13 goals in 40 games. Other EFL teams showed a lot of interest in hiring him, but the 25-year-old decided Wanderers was the place he wanted to be after talking with Ian Evatt.

Though he was an opponent at the Toughsheet, he has previously experienced the excitement there and is eager to take the field in a white shirt. He said to the club channels, “I am excited to get going, more than anything I am buzzing.” It’s good to finally get it finished because it’s been in the works for a while. “I had a meeting with the manager, and I was quite impressed with his approach and the objectives for this season. “Obviously, I played here last season, so I’m excited to join in on that. It was great to see the fans, and the atmosphere made me very happy.

It was definitely one of the hardest games I have ever played last year. We all want to get promoted this year, I’m sure, and I’m thrilled to maybe be a part of that. McAtee, who will wear the number 45 shirt at Wanderers, is the team’s eighth summer addition as they prepare for the upcoming season, which begins on Saturday night at 5.30 p.m. with a trip to Leyton Orient. With the release of Cameron Jerome and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson at the end of the previous season, his arrival expands Evatt’s offensive options.
