Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton were reportedly among 10 English clubs with representation at Fenerbahce vs Olympiacos on Thursday night, with scouts in attendance watching potential transfer targets.
The Europa Conference League quarter-final between the Turkish and Greek giants was almightily competitive and the tie progressed to penalties. Plenty of talent was certainly on show as Olympiacos went through 3-2 on spot-kicks after a 3-3 draw on aggregate.
AS Marca Turkey claims 34 clubs had scouts watching on at Sukru Saracoglu Stadium in Istanbul, meaning there’s plenty of competition on a transfer front. Seeing prospective targets in person is important, though, and showing face can make a difference in future talks.
Wolves and Everton officially recorded attendance, while representatives from Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Manchester United, Burnley, Leicester City and Watford were also present.
It’s unclear if any particular players were being watched closely – or if the visit was to assess the game as a whole – but one defender was likely at the forefront of many scouts’ minds, Ferdi Kadioglu.
The 24-year-old Turkey international, widely reported as a target for a host of English clubs, played the full 120 minutes on Thursday. Speculated to have a price tag of €20 million (£17.1 million), the versatile full-back has been linked directly with Wolves and Everton previously.
Other English clubs said to have an interest include Arsenal, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Fulham. There are also several of Europe’s elite teams keeping a close eye.
