Southampton youngster Jack Wright kept his second clean sheet of the season and his first at Huish Park in what manager Mark Cooper called the team’s “best all-round performance of the season.” The solid defensive display came after the return of the back four consisting of Alex Whittle, Morgan Williams, Jake Wannell, and Michael Smith, who had started the season together.

Speaking to BBC Somerset’s Chris Spittles after the match, Wright, 21, said: “That’s our foundation now as a team. I thought today was one of our better performances from the nine games we’ve played. We just need to keep building momentum and hope to avoid injuries or suspensions.”

Wright emphasized the importance of maintaining that level of performance, noting that if they continue playing like this, the team would be competitive throughout the season. He acknowledged the team’s struggle with finishing, saying, “It was just the final product for us today.”

Wright, who signed a contract extension with Southampton in April before his season-long loan to Huish Park, celebrated his second shut-out in nine competitive matches. He added, “I’m buzzing with the clean sheet. It was much needed. The lads were brilliant in the first half, and I didn’t have much to do, but it’s important to be ready when called upon – that’s what I train for.”

Wright expressed gratitude for the opportunity to play regularly at a high level, saying, “The Gaffer trusts me, and at my age, it’s a great level to be at. I’m here to play as much as I can and showcase my abilities.”
