Jack Butland wants to leave Rangers this summer and return to the English Premier League, according to DHNet.
Writing on their website (11 April), the Belgian news outlet report that the English goalkeeper wants to return south of the border after just one season at Ibrox.
Rangers want to sign Standard Liege goalkeeper Arnaud Bodart as a replacement with a £3.4m fee mooted [SudInfo].
“One of the conditions required before the Scottish club possibly positions itself, would be for the current holder, Jack Butland, to leave,” they wrote.
“His wish, after his full season with Rangers, would be to return to the Premier League and establish himself there.”
Will Jack Butland leave Rangers this summer?
Butland is without a doubt the best goalkeeper in the Scottish Premier League, and his signing is the best transfer of any club in the last 12 months in Scotland.
But there simply has to be some realisation that the goalkeeper may want to play at a higher level, and after being ignored for the England national team he has motivation to want to move on.
However, Rangers will need to convince the 31-year-old to stick around at Ibrox if they are serious about kicking on and testing Celtic for the title on a regular basis.
The club did well to reject advances from Nottingham Forest in the January window and they are reaping the rewards of that in the second half of the season.
Philippe Clement can offer European football and a chance to challenge for trophies regularly. But a big money bid may be too much to refuse and if Butland is really looking to move on, there may be nothing they can do to stop it.
